Chief Christian Chukwuma Onoh (C.C. Onoh) was a distinguished Nigerian lawyer, businessman, and politician, remembered for his unwavering dedication to his people and his role in shaping the political landscape of Enugu.

Born on April 27, 1927, he was among the first crop of trained lawyers from Enugu. His educational journey began at Ngwo Central School (1934-36) before transferring to St. Peter's Primary School, Enugu. He later attended the prestigious College of Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu (1945-48) and pursued higher education at the University College of Wales, where he earned a Law degree.

Upon returning to Nigeria, he ventured into politics and was elected into the Federal House of Representatives in 1958. He later became Chairman of the Nigeria Coal Corporation (1959-65) and, in 1974, emerged as Chairman of the Enugu Urban Council. His commitment to development remained steadfast.

In 1959, he married Chief Mrs. Caroline Chinweolu, and together, they raised nine children, including Bianca Ojukwu (née Onoh), who would go on to make her mark as a diplomat, beauty queen, and wife of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Chief C.C. Onoh joined the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and contested the 1983 Anambra governorship election, defeating incumbent Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo. However, his tenure lasted only three months before the military coup led by General Muhammadu Buhari overthrew the civilian government.

He is often regarded as the father of Enugu State, leading the struggle for the creation of Waawa State (Enugu State), a battle that would eventually result in its establishment in 1991. His legacy stands tall as one of the most prominent politicians to emerge from Enugu.

Ndi Igbo mourn the absence of men like Chief C.C. Onoh, a strong, fearless leader who was willing to fight for his people. The great "Ani na efu ngwu of Waawa land", as he was fondly called, passed away at the age of 82, leaving behind a towering legacy of service, dedication, and patriotism.
